New Jersey Hits the Jackpot with Railroads

New Jersey’s Atlantic City is known for its casinos, boardwalk and beach, but without railroads this summer vacation land would never have gained such notoriety. During the mid-19th century, business owners built both hotels and rail lines to attract tourists to Atlantic City. In fact, railroads were so important to the town, the game Monopoly which was based on Atlantic City, features three of the four railroads that once served the town, the Pennsylvania, Reading and Short Line Railroads.
